Independent journalist and promoter Dmitry Urupin finally decided to make real his old dream. Now he is working on creating audio books. His project Audio Theater
[www.audiothater.indeep.ru] has already done several small pieces that you can find on the website. One of them is a part of Haruki Murakami's "A Wild Sheep Chase", the chapter "Night in Dzunitaki". Working on this audio miniature Dmitry used music of Vermicelli Orchestra [www.vo.org.ru]. This work was shown to composer Sergey Schurakov and he liked it. In the future plans of Audio Theatre It is making of full versions of Murakami's novels such as "A Wild Sheep Chase" and "Dance Dance Dance". Dmitry Urupin is also going to use Vermicelli's music in it. This project needs some sponsor's support but Dmitry is sure that is possible to make it. The statistics of Audio Theater's website shows that "Night in Dzunitaki" is the most popular between visitors. According to the author's opinion there is no doubt that success of the project connected not only with fame of Haruki Murakami but with a beautiful music of Vermicelli Orchestra.

As we reported recently, talks discussing details of Vermicelli Orchestra's musicians' involvement in making Marc Almond's new recording came to successful fruition. On June 7 the talks started to bear fruit: Sergei Schurakov and his sister Maria recorded the accordion and mandolin parts for six of the album's songs. The release of Marc Almond's new album is scheduled for 2003. A total of 17 songs have been recorded, most of them Russian (both contemporary and of yore). The album contains several vocal duos with Russian stars. One of the songs features Loyko. The album is being produced by a well known St. Petersburg musician Andrei Samsonov who wrote one song on the album.

For the first time since its coming into existence Vermicelli Orchestra decided to release some of its live recordings, even if, for the time being, only on the Internet (however, offers have been made to make them into a CD). Vermicelli Orchestra's official site contains an audio page at http://www.vo.org.ru/en/au.htm featuring several pieces performed on April 20, 2002 in the Leningrad Concert Hall at a joint concert with electronic duo EU and a chamber orchestra. This could be of interest to those who might want to take a look at the sound of Vermicelli and EU's joint undertaking that will be continued in the coming months. Watch for the news!

This tribute CD is produced by Anna Chernigovskaya, a widow of legendary Russian musician and composer Dusha Romanov. Vermicelli Orchestra will perform "Guinevere", Dusha's instrumental piece. Anna invited VO to re-arrange and play this piece several months ago, and now "Guinevere" is ready for recording. Also, VERMICELLIES are planning to include "Guinevere" in the playlist of concerts coming; note that Anna agreed for this already.

WAYSIDE MUSIC [www.waysidemusic.com], a musical internet store, recently included two VERMICELLI ORCHESTRA's albums (ANABASIS and BYZANTIUM) in its catalogue. For over 20 years, WAYSIDE MUSIC has been dealing in progressive rock, experimental rock, new jazz, off-beat, contemporary and other undefinable musics from across the globe. The recent updates include VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, RICK WAKEMAN, THE RESIDENTS and many others. Seems to be a good company for Vermicelli :-).

The long-rumored Vermicelli Orchestra's idea of performing in a concert jointly with a chamber orchestra has finally taken shape on December 14 at the Concert Hall near the Finland Train Station. Vermicelli's expanded lineup (ten musicians, included two flutes and two cellos), an eight-man string band and 10 kW of sound all did their part. To quote Andrei Burlaka (of www.rock-n-roll.ru): "Vermicelli Orchestra have once again managed to amaze its audience by presenting its new opus magnum, the Concerto Grosso for Vermicelli and Orchestra, at the concert hall near the Finland Train Station... In summary, this performance can be considered quite a success, for Schurakov and his orchestra managed to find the fragile balance between the slightly overly exotic texture, the inevitable eclecticism of the material and rigid limitation of the harmony. At the very least, the audience was not just well-disposed and but rather fully entranced showing the right responses where and when expected. On the other hand, the ability to listen to the music, similar to brute physical strength, is developed by constant practice, so listen and you will hear…"
